The storm is over, now what do I do?
Los Angeles County Fire recommends you conduct an outside perimeter check of your residence prior to entering, be sure doors/windows are free of mud/debris prior to entering. Watch your step outside. Be aware of possible sinkholes that are hard to see in your yard or obstructions such as sprinkler heads or fencing that may be covered over with mud/debris. Be cautious when driving into/out of the Impact Area. You do not want to drive over mud/rocks that may damage your vehicle.
My home was damaged or lost; what do I need to rebuild?
Under current codes, almost any work on a structure or piece of property requires a permit. The permit process allows the local agency to determine if the plans meet the State’s standards and whether the work being done in the field is following the approved plans. It is important that all work is done by a licensed professional otherwise the work being done has a high chance of not meeting standards and thus will not be accepted. We do not want you to become a victim again.

We understand that your home is very special to you and your family; we want it to be safe, meeting all regulations so that you can return to normalcy as quickly as possible. What do I do with all the sandbags and pipe and timber structure in my driveway?
Do not discard them. This is not the last weather event that we’ll be suggesting you layout sandbags to protect your property. You should remove sandbags to store out of the weather (garage or cover them if left outside); they should be checked for tears. If stored properly sandbags have a shelf life of approximately 12 months. Sandbags should not be emptied while stored as you may need to utilize them at a moment’s notice.
Pipe and timber materials should be maintained when not in use. Clean out the pipe sleeves so they are clear of any debris and cover sleeve openings when not in use to prevent clogging. Pipe and timber should be inspected for integrity and stored for future use.
What if I need more sandbags and sand?
The City of Glendora still has some sandbags available for residents in the Colby Fire Impact Area. Sandbags and sand are available at the City Street Yard on Loraine Avenue, just north of the railroad tracks. We may already have sandbags that are filled. If not there are personnel there to show you how to properly fill them. After hours, a limited supply of sandbags and sand are available outside the gate entrance to the Street Yard off the alley on Loraine.
Will the City continue to assist me in protecting my home from flood/debris flow?
Generally, by law, government entities are limited in what they can do on private property. We can provide advice on public safety issues, inspect for compliance and provide immediate assistance as an emergency responder and take other very limited assistance if it can be determined to benefit the “general public”.
With our advice or that of a licensed engineer, residents can consider sandbags, installing diversion structures and other structure protection devices. Remember, you cannot divert water or debris from your property into another property under State law. You also cannot undertake work on another person’s property without their permission or consent.

I have significant amount of mud on my property can the City help haul it away?
At this time the City can haul away mud and debris. If you can get the mud and debris to the street, we will be able to remove and dispose of it properly. If you plan to request this assistance you need to call (626) 914-8246 and provide your name and address. You will not be charged for the pickup and haul. You cannot mix any other material, including trash or construction material in this pile as the disposal site will reject it.
