Community Services Shining Star Award
The Community Services Department would like to recognize Alejandro Torres, Maintenance Leadworker, as the Shining Star Award Winner for 1st Quarter 2019.
Alex has been with the Community Services Department since May 2015. He came to us from the private sector where he worked in landscape maintenance and he has brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to our department. Within weeks of him joining us, we began the Water Conservation Project, which was a major task. With little to no large scale project experience he came right in and got the job done.
His responsibilities include overseeing the Beautification Crew that provides citywide weed abatement of the right-of-ways, clearing drains and landscape maintenance at various sites throughout the City.
Since joining us, he has obtained his class B license and recently received his Qualified Applicators License (QAL) from the Department of Pesticide Regulation. He has also been a huge help assisting me in getting the Rain Bird IQ System up and running.
He is always up for any new challenges and in November when I asked that he come in on the weekend and install Christmas lights on the Ficus trees in the Village, he was all for it. Even though it was something completely new to him. For three nights, we worked 12-hour plus shifts and were able to complete way more trees than I would have ever imagined. He was in the boom truck for hours on end and was able to develop a rhythm that allowed him to complete a tree in 30-40 minutes. I was extremely impressed. He has a passion for this type of work and it clearly shows in everything that he does.
Alex has been a great addition to the Community Services Department and for these reasons; we would like to recognize Alejandro Torres as the Department Shining Star for 1st Quarter 2019.
